Gaining Insight from Different Cultures: Benefits of the Eight-Fold Path

There are several insights that could be gained from varying cultures and philosophies. One well-known philosophy is that of Siddhartha Gautama. Siddhartha Gautama, or more popularly known as the Buddha, was an Indian prince who left his home in search of enlightenment. After a long journey, he returned many years later with a new belief system that places conduct, thought, and meditation as key components of his philosophy.

His noble “Eightfold path” includes:

  • Right understanding
  • Right intention
  • Right speech
  • Right action
  • Right livelihood
  • Right effort
  • Right mindfulness
  • Right concentration
