Education can only be effective if our children are motivated to learn. It’s easy for them to feel school burnout.

In our Chinese School in Bayside, New York, we make an effort in finding the best learning activities that fit your children’s needs. However, involvement from parents is also greatly required in order to reinforce everything they learn in school. If your child is showing disinterest in schoolwork, you must explore whether there is some obstacle that’s getting in his or her way.

Obstacles may be learning issues, attention problems, social challenges, and even emotional setbacks. However, not all kids who are underperforming in school have a diagnosable problem and there are a number of things parents can do to help motivate them to try harder. Mixing things up like doing fun after school activities is an effective way to do this. Parents should spend quality playtime with their children.

As a parent, you must be present in your child’s academic life. Do homework with your child from time to time. Ask him or her about what she learned in school and share your own scholastic experiences as well. Conversing with them about school helps them feel its importance. You can also reward them for good work. But make sure that you also reinforce their efforts rather than the outcome.
